The Dream Syndicate's The Days of Wine and Roses is often talked about as an influential album, and apparently it was even pretty successful, yet I imagine the average person has never heard of it (or the band). Which is a shame, because it is a pretty damn good album - not as good as the obvious touchstone, The Feelies, but still quite good. Both bands existed around the same time, had Velvet Underground comparisons and are now considered cult acts, and both are well worth your time. This is the opening track off of the aforementioned LP. Steve Wynn's voice took some getting used to for me, but the guitar tone in this song instantly connected.

Song of the Day: The Soft Pack - More or Less
I bought tickets to see Kurt Vile, not knowing that the headliner of the show was actually going to be The Soft Pack. I listened to their eponymous album a few times, and seeing them live made me realize they sound a lot like The Feelies (which is a very good thing). Now that I've listened to the LP quite a few more times, I'm having trouble picking a song - it's a consistently good album with no filler. But "More or Less" is my favorite today, so let's hear it.

Song of the Day: The Feelies - Only Life
The Feelies are mentioned as being influenced by Velvet Underground and being peers to R.E.M., but when I first heard them, I didn't see the connections. I'm not sure what song I heard, because when I got a copy of Only Life, I fell in love with it immediately. The lead singer does in fact sound like Lou Reed (I like Lou Reed), and they cover a VU song on this album ("What Goes On"), but it's the opening title track that I'm listening to today.
